John Neate, Chief Executive at The Prostate Cancer Charity,
spoke to BBC News Online about the findings of a joint study
carried out by the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal
Marsden Hospital, which suggested that screening men at an
increased genetic risk of developing prostate cancer could be
beneficial.
Whilst potentially significant, John urged caution as data
shared are preliminary results from a long-term study which will
take many years to complete. John also recommended that the UK
National Screening Committee to take the findings into account when
assessing the validity of the PSA blood test as a screening tool
for prostate cancer.
