A woman who lost her partner to prostate cancer is commencing a
round the coast tour of Scotland to raise awareness of the disease
and funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
Dr Anne Macintyre - who lives in Devon and originally hails from
Glenalmond in Perthshire - is scheduled to commence her tour from
Glasgow on Monday 16 May and reach her final destination of
Berwick-Upon-Tweed on 1 June.
Dr Macintyre (68) - who is disabled as a result of rheumatoid
arthritis - will be making her journey in a campervan, as she had
hoped to do with her partner prior to his death from prostate
cancer two years ago. Throughout the tour Dr Macintyre will be
distributing information cards about prostate cancer and seeking
sponsorship for The Prostate Cancer Charity at campsites throughout
the country.
Dr Anne Macintyre explains: "When my partner, Philip, was
diagnosed with prostate cancer, one of the things we proposed to do
together was travel round the coast of my native Scotland.
Unfortunately Philip passed away before this was possible. I
therefore decided to proceed with the tour alone in memory of Phil,
to raise awareness of prostate cancer and raise funds for The
Prostate Cancer Charity.
"Given my own condition I know it will not be easy, but anything
I can do to help in the fight against prostate cancer has to be
well worth the effort."

in Scotland, Ann Ferguson, said: "Prostate cancer is the most
common cancer diagnosed in men in Scotland. 2,700 Scots are
diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, and 19,000 are currently
living with the disease. In light of these figures every effort
made to raise money and increase awareness of the disease is to be
welcomed.
"I therefore both thank and congratulate Anne in her efforts,
and wish her every success on behalf of this extremely worthwhile
cause."
