Many men across the globe will be mourning their moustaches as
the month formerly known as Movember has come to an end.
For the past 30 days men and women have joined together to raise
awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate
and testicular cancer.
Last year almost 112,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas across the UK
raised an amazing £11.7 million. This year over 252,000 took part
raising £14.7 million so far. These funds are directed to
programmes run directly by Movember and their men's health partners
The Prostate Cancer Charity and The Institute of Cancer
Research.
First-time Mo Bro, Owen Sharp, Chief Executive of The Prostate
Cancer Charity, has been sporting his Mo for the past month, along
with his hairy faced employees at the Charity.
Speaking about the month-long campaign, Owen says: "Even though
on the face-of-it Movember appears to be a light-hearted campaign,
it has been hugely successful in not only raising millions of
pounds for research into prostate cancer, but also managing to get
younger men to start thinking about their health.
"It has been great joining in with 250,000 men across the
country in ditching the razor to raise money and an increased
understanding of prostate cancer - the most common cancer in men in
the UK. We know that men's health often lags behind as an
issue, both in terms of investment in research and in awareness.
Prostate cancer has certainly been subject to this legacy of
neglect and Movember is helping us to redress this balance and put
men's health firmly in the spotlight."
Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia in 2003,
Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more
than 1.1 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to participate so far.
