Local duo, Daniel Marshall and Greg
Borthwick, recently supported Prostate Cancer UK by organising a
golf marathon on 21st June.
Daniel, whose father was recently diagnosed
with prostate cancer, and his friend Greg completed six rounds of
golf on six different courses including two courses at Moray,
Hopeman, Kinloss, Forres and Elgin. They teed off at 3.10am and
finished at 9.50pm, and raised £1,075 for the charity through
sponsorship.
Daniel Marshall, 33, from Elgin, said: "My
father was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer so I wanted to
do something to show my support. We decided to take on this
challenge to raise awareness and highlight how common the disease
is, and to also raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK, who
support men like my father who have been diagnosed."
He added: "An early start on the day meant
we were playing in the dark, and a lot of rain meant we were
drenched, however we were determined to power on and complete what
we had set out to do for such a worthwhile cause. We'd like to
thank everyone who helped us throughout the day, including each
golf course who generously allowed us to play for free, my mother
who became our personal chauffeur and caddy, and all those who
kindly sponsored us."
Gemma Cornwell, Community Fundraising
Manager at Prostate Cancer UK, said: "We are thrilled that Daniel
and Greg decided to take on and organise the golf marathon to help
raise funds and awareness for the Charity. Every year, over 40,000
men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK - and it is a
disease which kills one man every hour. The funds raised will go
towards our work supporting men and their families affected by the
disease, and our thanks go to everyone involved with this
challenge."
