A team of runners sporting retro 1970s y-fronts, Georgian
corsets and bright sequinned bras sprinted through central London
this morning, encouraging fellow runners to join TeamPB for the
Virgin London Marathon this April.
TeamPB, which brings together The Prostate Cancer Charity and
Breast Cancer Care, is inviting its runners to proudly wear pants
and bras on race day to represent the two cancers they are raising
funds for.
Today the team wore an eclectic mix of underwear from throughout
the ages as they ran through Westminster, across Tower Bridge and
down the final stretch of The Mall. Sporting 1920's frilly
pantalets, Madonna-style conical bras and cosy long johns, TeamPB
hopes to inspire people to take up the challenge on race day to
create the next big moment in underwear history - the biggest team
possible running in their pants and bras.
More than 640 people have so far pledged to take on the 26.2
mile route across the Capital for TeamPB, to support people
affected by breast and prostate cancer and raise more than
£1million for the challenge.
Neil Fox, Magic FM radio presenter joined in the fun today and
will be taking on the epic challenge for TeamPB on April
22nd. Neil was happy to don his [pink bra/blue long johns]
for the cause and said: "Running today wearing my pants has
certainly put the fun back into my training! I can't wait to seeing
my fellow TeamPB runners on the start line on race day helping to
raise awareness for two such important charities. I'll be running
in memory of my Dad Roy who died of prostate cancer in 2001. We're
hoping to have the biggest team ever so why not join us and help
make a difference to people affected by either breast or prostate
cancer."
Other names running in support of TeamPB include Amanda Mealing,
star of BBC1's Holby City and Sky1's Strike Back. Amanda will
be joined by Smooth Radio presenter and former host of Top of the
Pops, Mark Goodier, former contestant of BBC1's 'The Apprentice' in
2011, Felicity Jackson, and television presenter, Amanda
Hamilton.
Also limbering up to take on the Virgin London Marathon, Owen
Sharp, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, said:
"TeamPB is a fantastic group to be part of, as we all know that we
are racing to the finish line for the same reason - to support
everyone affected by prostate and breast cancer. I'll be very
proud to see our runners embracing Team Pants and Bra on the big
day in their own ways and helping raise awareness and funds for
both charities. People with their own ballot marathon place still
looking for a charity to support can still be part of this unique
running experience by signing up to TeamPB".
The two charities - which are working to improve the lives of
the 750,000 people living with the most common cancers in men and
women in the UK - were chosen as the first joint official charities
of Virgin London Marathon to raise awareness of these diseases, as
well as vital funds for support services and research.
People who won their Virgin London Marathon place in the ballot
earlier this year can still be part of TeamPB whether they wish to
wear their underwear or not, by signing up at http://teampb.org.uk/join-teampb/.
