Sharp Electronics are going above and beyond the call of duty in
support of The Prostate Cancer Charity as they embark on their
fourth day of the Race Across America. Managing Director of Sharp
Electronics, Paul Molyneux and his team of four are cycling from
the West coast to the East coast of the USA, in one of the toughest
endurance challenges known to cycling. The RAAM challenge is part
of the Sharp 4 Prostate initiative, and will see them covering
3,014 miles, non-stop for seven days.
The Sharp Electronics team will be riding an average of 430
miles per day in a four-man relay. Whilst one person is cycling,
the others will be sleeping in a moving van behind them, meaning
that they will be in motion non-stop for the entire week, 24 hours
a day.
To keep up the necessary energy levels for the challenge, Paul
and his crew will need to consume 8,000 calories each per day,
which is four times more than the standard daily amount. The racers
will also be advised to drink between 20 and 24 fluid ounces of
liquid per hour, which equates to three gallons per day. The RAAM
is one of the most difficult cycling events in the world, and is 50
per cent longer than the Tour de France. The Sharp Electronics team
will need to push themselves to their absolute limits in order to
complete the challenge that lies ahead.
The Prostate Cancer Charity's Head of Partnerships, Anna

are putting themselves through one of the most gruelling endurance
events known to man and will be pushing themselves to their

The Sharp Electronics team has been in tough training for the
event, which they have juggled alongside their other Sharp 4
Prostate projects, which include a motor racing event at Brands
Hatch and a Hoedown in Surrey. Sharp are determined to raise
£100,000 for the Charity, and are well past the halfway point.
The RAAM is not the first interest that the company has taken in
cycling. Sharp Electronics entered the world of professional
cycling last year in a partnership with the Rapha Condor team, who
are now known as Rapha Condor Sharp. The team is currently taking
part in the Halfords Tour Series, as part of The Tour of Britain,
of which The Prostate Cancer Charity are the official charity
partners. With the likes of Kristian House and Dean Downing on
board, the boys are proving unstoppable.
