DJs Edith Bowman and Fearne Cotton are just two celebrities who
are recommending their top tunes to people running the London
Virgin Marathon for The Prostate Cancer Charity and Breast Cancer
Care, together known as TeamPB.
From Edith's choice of the Arctic Monkey's 'Dancing Shoes' to
Fearne's 'Black Country Road' by David Bowie, their selection of
songs will keep runners pounding the streets in the lead up to the
iconic race and, of course, on the big day itself.
But the duo aren't alone in giving musical inspiration to the
hundreds of people running to raise money for the two charities.
Playlists from comedian, Harry Hill; BBC Sports presenter, Gabby
Logan; music talents, Scouting for Girls, Lemar, Bombay Bicycle
Club and Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip; the Nation's favourite tenor
Alfie Boe; and former Hollyoaks actress, Gemma Atkinson, also
reveal a treasure of classic tunes to get physical to. Eclectic
highlights include Bennie Hill's, 'Ernie the fastest milkman in the
West', Abba's 'SOS' and Elvis Costello's 'Pump it Up'.
Full details of the all celebrity playlists are available at www.teampb.org.uk.
More than 570 people have so far pledged to take on the 26.2
mile route across the Capital as part of a group known as TeamPB,
to support people affected by breast and prostate cancer and raise
more than £1million for the challenge.
The two charities - which are working to improve the lives of
the 750,000 people living with the most common cancers in men and
women in the UK - were chosen as the first joint official partner
of Virgin London Marathon to raise awareness of these diseases, as
well as vital funds for support services and research.
Also taking on the epic challenge for TeamPB is Amanda Mealing,
who recently starred in BBC1's Holby City and Sky1's Strike Back.
Amanda, an Ambassador for Breast Cancer Care, added: "The marathon
was always on my 'to do' list so when Breast Cancer Care were
chosen as one of the official charities I knew this was my year!
I had breast cancer over ten years ago and since then I've
always tried to be healthy and keep fit but this is a whole new
ball game. I've started doing a bit of training and I'm really
looking forward to meeting the rest of the team. We're hoping
to have the biggest team ever so why not join us and help make a
difference to people affected by either breast or prostate
cancer."
Other names to running in support of TeamPB included former
contestant of BBC1's 'The Apprentice' in 2011, Felicity Jackson,
television presenter, Amanda Hamilton, and Stefanie Ripley, who
lost her father, former England rugby player, Andy, to prostate
cancer last year.
Also limbering up to take on the Virgin London Marathon, Owen
Sharp, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: "It's
great that so many celebrities have got behind TeamPB, either by
contributing a playlist or by taking on the huge challenge of the
race itself, which I am sure will motivate all our runners to make
as they run their way around the iconic route in April.
"For runners like me, who have not run a marathon before, TeamPB
is a fantastic group to be part of, as we all know that we are
racing to the finish line for the same reason - to support everyone
affected by prostate and breast cancer.
"People with their own ballot marathon place can also be part of
this unique running experience and join the 570 people already
signed up to TeamPB"
People who won their Virgin London Marathon place in the ballot
earlier this year can still be part of TeamPB experience by signing
